Jim Musgrave started making solo records in 2004 following a five year stint as singer and songwriter with
The first, self produced album The Candle Confabulations is a joyous riot through frantic fuzz-pop, rock and mellow harmony, with melodic and varied songs and fat, raw 8 track production.
As an aside Jim then created a project, Land Equivalents, and released Puritan Bells. With an instrumental and found sound approach and a dark, dubby undercurrent, this album found favour with more experimental tastes yet pleased the current audience despite it's utter contrast to The Candle Confabulations.
Next came the striking song based EP, Water, with three intimate, spellbinding acoustic tracks and followed shortly after by oddball single Madame Bovary, with typically unusual subject matter and a characteristically eccentric take on Pop.
The latest song based album Pet Bites was recorded with Jim's live band in two sessions for speed and spontaneity. A 34 minute blast of hook - filled powerpop, prog and acoustic tracks, this album is a triumphant follow on from the first. Available on LoftSong Records, it is also being released on the Workaholics on Hoilday! label in February 2009.
In 2008 another Land Equivalents album Alpha Numeric Routines came out on the d'Oorhinge l'Orange label. Again taking the form of an instrumental album, this piece has more ambitious production and has been termed 'progressive pastoral psychedelia'.
